[[This will not be an indepth discussion of how #gamergate began, if you’re unaware of the situation I will include a range of sources for general information about the movement and it’s origins.]]
My Initial thoughts
Following the revelations abouts Zoey Quinn and journalists like Grayson and the supposed corruption as a result of romantic relations with journalists whilst I didn’t support ZQ’s conduct, I supported (and continue to do so) her right to be protected from what was (and still is) unjust and overly vicious harassment that was targeted specifically at her personal life and not the ethical concerns surrounding her and journalists behaviors and connections. As a result, I became a quiet supporter of most of what has now become the ‘Anti-Gamergate’ side (For lack of better term) of the debate and my sympathy increased gradually following the first few weeks where the digging up of personal information largely unrelated to Journalistic ethics which many within Gamergate so desperately wanted to talk, shout and get pissed about – and I understand that. One of the elements that most frustrated me about these early days was the attitude of trying to blacken names of supposed ‘SJW (Social Justice Warrior)Journalists’ many of which I was a fan of their work and respected and in some cases that I still do, the worst part of this was that I felt like I was being told what to do and that I was somehow wrong for supporting the work of journalists and content producers that I enjoyed.

Progress on the starting dorms is well underway, booze is being brewed and barrels are overflowing with food. Aside from the odd Gnoll hit and runs, there’s not much to talk about.

Let’s get down to business, The first step in a fortress is to check your surroundings and designate the area that you will start to develop into your great
Say hello to our brave pioneers, as you can see they’re huddled around a wooden square which is the wagon that holds all of the embark goods. Now to check out who or what are the neighbors who may or may not instantly decimate my fortress’ denizens.
As I mentioned in my earlier post, storytelling is a favourite past time of the Dwarf Fortress community. While I personally have never written one of these, I have read and observed the creation of many and from what I see they come in three flavours
For my first attempt at doing a Dwarf Fortress story I’m going to go with the simplest format following the creation of my fortress and the spiral towards the destruction of it. However, a twist in this is what I will be using the mod Masterwork Dwarf Fortress which adds a lot more challenge to the game.
Hello there, I’m a sixteen year old who as you’ve hopefully guessed is called Callum. I’ve been feeling the need to express myself more and more lately, and with many failed and embarrassing attempts at doing this through different methods (Oh god the poetry) and this seems to be the most comfortable forms of expression I’ve come across.
I come from a good background and thankfully I’ve never had to go hungry, feel true pain and I always have someone there for me which is more than a lot of people have so if I ever come across as grumpy I try to remember this. From a young age I’ve had an interest in video games and History (Thanks to my older brother and the great Horrible History series) these two interests are probably two of the largest influences on my life so far with many a night spent huddled in front of a computer screen playing the amazing ‘Dwarf Fortress’ and many hours searching through history on wikipedia during free periods in school.
Dwarf Fortress, the game that makes games like Starcraft, Crusader kings and Eve Online look like easily accessible child’s play. However, underneath the near impentetrable skin of the ASCII (Which I personally don’t use), unintuitive user interface and sheer amount of content is the game that personally I believe has the potential to shape the way we talk about video games and video game stories.
